Quick Biographical Facts
The Divine Journey
Sant Shri Kalyan Das Ji Maharaj was born into a prosperous Brahmin family in the town of Payal (Patiala State). Originally named Pandit Kapoor Chand Ji, his father was Pandit Chiranji Lal Ji. Educated in Urdu, Persian, Sanskrit, and classical music, he displayed a profound sense of detachment (vairagya) from a very young age.
Though married early to Smt. Prem Devi Ji, his worldly detachment led him to renounce home and travel to sacred places like Kashi and Haridwar in search of a Satguru. He later reached Talwandi (Multan) where his innate wisdom elevated him to the position of Mahant of an Udasin seat. His true spiritual awakening occurred when he met Bapu Jwala Singh Ji, who bestowed Naam Diksha upon him and named him "Kalyan Das".
In his final days, he moved to Palwal (Haryana) and merged into the Divine Light (Jyoti Jyot) on 25 Magh, Samvat 1993 Vikrami. To honor his sacred memory, "Kalyan Nagar" was established in Gadarpur, Nainital, where a beautiful temple was built. Devotees gather here annually during the Chaitra month for a grand Smriti Yagya.
The memory of the Guru is not merely a part of history; it becomes a path of light for generations to come. The sacred current connected to Bapu Jwala Singh Ji and the Saint tradition continues to inspire the Sangat to walk the path of devotion, service, meditation, and humanity.
