Quick Biographical Facts
The Divine Journey
Bapu Harnam Ji Maharaj was born on 2 Maghar (17 November) in Village Hediya, District Jalandhar, Punjab, in the lap of Mata Harkaur Ji, with Puran Dass Ji as his father. From his earliest years, he displayed an extraordinary detachment from worldly possessions and a deep yearning for the divine.
He received Naam Diksha from Om Bapu Narayan Dutt Ji Maharaj and dedicated himself entirely to a life of Tyag (renunciation) and Tapasya (austerity). He renounced worldly status and wealth, choosing instead the path of severe spiritual practice. His period of rigorous Sadhana and his deep association with Nandachaur Dham shaped his spiritual journey profoundly.
His compassion, selfless service, and profound spiritual influence touched countless lives. He guided three prominent disciples — Bapu Shardha Ram Ji Maharaj of Nandachaur, Bhagat Jwala Ji of Village Atti, and Bapu Daya Kishan Ji Maharaj of Saharanpur — each of whom carried forward his divine legacy. Bapu Harnam Ji Maharaj merged into the Divine Light (Jyoti Jyot) on 12 Assuj, Samvat 2002 Vikrami (September 1945) at Okara, now in Pakistan.
Tyag and Tapasya — true renunciation and devoted austerity — are the path to the divine.
